[NEW] PocketShield "Proximity" (Lite) Edition v1.0
March 03, 2010 09:28AM
Dear all,

We have released a new edition of PocketShield: the “Proximity” Edition for devices with proximity sensor. Currently only supported for TouchPro2, Tilt2, HD2 and Samsung Omnia2. Soon it will be supported for HD Mini and Omnia Pro.

PocketShield “Proximity” Edition has the same core locking engine of PocketShield but narrowed down to operate only with a proximity sensor. No other unlocking mechanisms are available as the proximity itself eliminates the need of any other alternative methods.

It is not a “lock screen” oriented protection, it actually still has a very simple black screen but can be barely noted as it will only work when device is covered or stored inside its case, pocket or bag. As soon as no object is close to the sensor it will automatically unlock.

Since no lock screen is necessary, there are no notification options available, neither lock screen “Design”. Phone options are also limited, and it is assumed that the phone application has its own protecting mechanism, except for hardware keys which PocketShield “Proximity” will continue blocking.

Note: Not all cases/pouches are sensed by the HTC proximity sensor, read this post.

So will the traditional PocketShield lock screen be useless now?
Not at all. It is just a different locking approach. A lock screen is not just a “lock screen”, it provides valuable and instant information to the user in a snap, it is the first thing you see when you pick your phone. Some people prefer to use a lock screen, some others don’t. This is why PocketShield has split into these 2 different editions, so we can serve both and let each edition reveal its potential through time and through technology innovation.

A general comparison chart between the "Protection" and "Proximity" editions can be found here.

Does the Protection Edition have all the proximity stuff as well?

If I already own the Protection Edition do I have to pay for the Proximity Edition?

Yes, you can setup Protection to work pretty the same as Proximity, but not vice versa.
If you already have it you can get Proximity edition at 30% discount ($6.90). We still don't have the web interface for that but can send you the instructions to your email if you want.

Hello,
When a call is not answered, the screen lights up and is protected by the lock of the phone, but if we do not respond, the screen stays on.
This version of PS is useless!

The idea would be good if you use the sensor to unlock and relock especially!!

It will lock after a call or missed call only if proximity detected.

No, the screen does not turn off at the end of the conversation or unanswered call, with or without object, before the proximity sensor

Hello,
Another important note:
It is important not to delete the virtual button to turn off the screen (Lock), for the HD2 is essential, since the hard button hangs up the conversation

Will check. Maybe a timing issue varying on ROMs.
About the manual lock, it does not make sense here because even when you lock manually it will unlock immediately if proximity not detected. To lock during call simply put phone close to ear.

JDB,

I have the same issue as goninph. I have Tilt 2, and proximity locking does NOT kick in after a missed call. The only two cases where I am interested in proximity locking is:

1) reminder popup
2) missed call

Therefore, this severely limits the capabilities of this application. I am using stock ATT ROM... please let me know if you need any more information, or if this is fixed in one of the newer releases.

Thanks,

Marko

Maybe you got an outdated CAB, can you download and install again from here? http://www.pocketshield.net/dwn/PocketShield_Proximity.CAB
