Quote
PocketShield
Headsets are supposed to be used outside the pocket

It depends... For example, when listening music, we don't necessary keep the phone in the hand, that's why the power/button lock features integrated to some players are useful (now that the update for app permission allow to use these players options instead of PS).

[quotes]even more acts as a remote control to the phone[/quote]
I'd like to if it was possible with the standard headset !... But I did'nt find any player that supports remote control with the only standard button of the headset, and I don't know any wired headset that has several control buttons (only some BT headset have this). Thus, I don't have any idea how the headset button could act as a remote control...

Quote

It is also used to initiate Voice commands This is why PS does not lock headset button (and for other technical reasons as well).

Actually, this is the best reason why the button shouldn't be locked, but it would be wise to let the choice to the user to lock it or not...

Quote

Actually this is a feature that causes confusion, and it will probably be removed in the future because has not much sense.

According to me, what causes confusion is the position in the PS settings "tree", given this option is placed in the incoming call options. So unchecking the box let us think that the button will have non effect on an incoming call, neither at any other moment if we have always checked the "lock hardware buttons" box...
That's what I thought, and that's why I was surprised to see that the button wasn't locked like other hardware buttons.

I think it would be much more convenient to have a checkbox for headset button lock/unlock feature under hardware button section, and let the actual checkbox to allow responding to incoming call only.

I don't know if I've been clear enough in my explanations... Let me know if not :S

Hi,
There might be another issue with the headset button action :
Even when the "unlock with headset button" is unchecked, the phone unlocks when double-tapping the button, which leads to the last dialed number recall action...
I thought that when enabled, this feature was intended to unlock and pick up a call, but only when the phone is ringing.
Actually, the headset button reminds active whatever the settings in PS...

PS protects phone when inside pocket. Headsets are supposed to be used outside the pocket, even more acts as a remote control to the phone. It is also used to initiate Voice commands This is why PS does not lock headset button (and for other technical reasons as well).
The "Enable wired headset button" on incoming call is there for one reason: At incoming calls WM internally "transfers" the ANSWER key functionallity to the headset button. So if you have the option to "keep answer keys disabled" it will also disable the headset button and wont let you answer with headset.

Actually this is a feature that causes confusion, and it will probably be removed in the future because has not much sense.

I thought that when enabled, this feature was intended to unlock and pick up a call, but only when the phone is ringing.

Actually, the headset button reminds active whatever the settings in PS...

Note: I reset all default settings first after upgrade as advised.
